Pablos Art Studio.
Work in progress. |
Pablos is a Wellington based COGS funded art studio and gallery specifically tailored for artists who use or have used mental health services.
The creation of art is a powerful tool for those who have suffered mental illness. It can be used as a vehicle for healing and as a means of enriching a persons quality of life.
Pablos is committed to accessing the art of its members and has a gallery situated in the heart of Wellington. This gallery is called Roar!
With the help of COGS funding, Roar! is able to provide a space for Pablos artists to engage the public with their work.
After creating the artworks in Pablos workshop, the artists can feel a sense of accomplishment by seeing their work in a gallery environment.
Although the studio and gallery have a focus of helping those who have used mental health services, it also serves the greater artistic community by helping other “outsider” and emerging artists as well. One such artist is Carl Ingram who said:
“Roar! provides a space that allows artists to feel comfortable experimenting with ideas that other fine art galleries won’t touch.
The gallery’s ability to look beyond the immediate financial return of an artist allows them to see the greater future benefits for the artist and the creative community as a whole.
I am very grateful for Roar!’s support and the funding that COGS provide”.
Pablos and Roar! are located at 22 Vivian street in central Wellington, but the gallery will be moving to Cuba street in November.
Our thanks to COGS for providing this article.
