Tropical habitat in Otago

Construction at the Otago Museum

The Otago Museum's project to establish a tropical habitat gets a kick start with a $200,000 donation from the Community Trust of Otago.

The Otago Museum wouldn't be able to undertake the tropical habitat project without the support of the Community Trust of Otago, said the Museum's Development and Planning Manager, Clare Wilson.

"We are delighted to get this funding, and it is the first substantial contribution we have received for the project. While we are still in the planning and fundraising stages, we are anticipating progressing to construction phase in the next three months or so."

"Without this donation, the project would be significantly less likely to proceed. The total funding required is around $750,000."

The tropical habitat will be a 'magical place' - a tropical ecosystem featuring live butterflies. The facility will be an extension to Discovery World.

Our thanks to Community Trust of Otago for providing this article.
