There’s nothing like a day’s farm work to build a healthy appetite and thanks to BayTrust, a cadet training centre near Taupo will have a newly outfitted kitchen that can cope with the demands of 16 hard-working young people.
Waipapa Charitable Trust secured pre-used buildings to develop its residential centre, which includes accommodation, ablution and kitchen facilities and a study area. The centre, on Pohipi Road, will be home and school to 16 farm cadets who will spend one day a week in the classroom and the balance of the week in practical learning situations on the Waipapa Station and land farmed by the Tuaropaki Trust. Onsite Education are the providers of the 44 week course, while Agritech is also working with the students on pre-employment skills. The residential centre opened in March with a function at Mokai Marae. BayTrust's $16,374 grant will be used to outfit the kitchen with commercial standard equipment. Our thanks to Bay Trust for providing this article.
