Dominion Post Global Citizen Exchange Scholarships

History or background of award
The Dominion Post Global Citizen Scholarship is to promote Victoria students engaging in the Vic OE student exchange programme.

Purpose of award
With the aim of encouraging participants to develop a global perspective and their leadership, creative and critical thinking and communications skills.

Selection criteria
Successful scholarship recipients must keep a blog or vlog during their exchange, which involves at least one entry per fortnight recording their key observations and learnings. The recipient must also fulfil any other requests from Marketing, Victoria International (VI) and/or Dominion Post for information or rights to share their blogs, vlogs, photos and videos.

This scholarship will be in addition to the Vic OE travel grants already available. Student may not hold this scholarship in conjunction with another Victoria Exchange Scholarship (e.g. Commerce or Kura Mai Tawhiti).

A scholarship applicant must be first accepted by Victoria International to participate on the Vic OE programme.

Additional criteria:
* Have a GPA of B+ or above at the time of application.
* Submit an essay of no more than 500 words outlining how they will contribute to the ideals of global citizenship.

How do students apply?
Candidates are to complete the application form attached.

Short listed candidates will then be asked to attend a 15 minute interview with the selection panel. Students must be able to demonstrate that they will be excellent ambassadors for New Zealand and Victoria University of Wellington, and will uphold the vision of being global citizens.

Decision makers
The selection panel will be chaired by a representative of the Scholarships Office and will include at least one representative from Marketing and Victoria International. Dominion Post will have the option of providing a representative for the selection panel or approving final list of preferred candidates.

Additional information
In Tri 1, 2014 scholarship winners will be chosen from applicants going on exchange to the regions of Asia/Pacific, North/South America and UK/Europe. Scholarships will be to the values of $2000 - $5000 each. Scholarship recipients must keep a regular blog or vlog of their experience during their exchange. Applications close 1 September for exchanges in Trimester 1, 2014.
